-red, he will be in a more responsible position and will

be required to furnish security, I concur in the Acting

Postmaster-General's recommendation that this salary

should be increased to $1,680.

If this recommendation is approved,

there will be a vacancy in the General Office for a

clerk at a salary of $1,560 per annum. This vacancy it

is proposed not to fill, but instead to appoint a new

Indian speaking clerk at a salary of $720 per annum. The

total increase in the yearly expenditure will therefore

be a sum of $840, necessitating a pro tanto alteration

in next year's estimates.

5.

To maintain the efficiency of the

+

Post Office it will be necessary to adopt the recommend-

ations of the Committee, I have therefore the honour

to request your sanction for the additional expenditure

which will be involved. The cost of enlarging the premises

is estimated at less than $500 and will be charged

against the vote for Miscellaneous Works.

6.

The proposed salaries have been

included in the scheme now being drawn up for the classi-

fication of the salaries of subordinate Officers.

I have the honour to be,

sir.

Your most obedient

Humble servant,

Henry Artike

Governor, &C..
